Junior
Our coaching team will decide when a skater is ready for the StarSkate program and when it is time to move to the Junior session. The Junior program is for skaters working on Star 1, 2 and 3 of the Skate Canada StarSkate program. Junior is taught by multiple Skate Canada Regional NCCP certified coaches. Junior skaters will spend time working with coaches in groups and individually and are expected to be able to work independently as well. StarSkate offers opportunities for skaters of all ages to develop fundamental figure skating skills in the areas of ice dance, skating skills, free skate and artistic skating. Skaters will have the opportunity to take Skate Canada Tests through a nationally standardized testing system. Skaters who have mastered figure skating skills in STARSkate may also choose to pursue synchronized skating or pairs skating. All skaters at this stage will be given a solo to showcase at Solo Night and will have the option to compete it at up to two competitions. Skaters will spend time working with coaches both on and off the ice. They will also join the Senior skaters for our stroking session.
New for the 2024/2025 season Junior will not be a freelance program. Skaters will only receive coaching bills for solo choreography and music creation, competition time and ice coaching time that is not within Exeter Skating Club’s regular schedule on Mondays and Thursdays between October and the Carnival in April.
Lots of tests passed this week! Congratulations to Nicole, Avery, Arina, Anderson, Mikaela, Faith and Maggie! Extra Congratulations to Arina, Faith and Maggie on passing your first Skate Canada test!
